Water is a finite resource. It seems as if there is plenty of water on Earth, however only a small percentage is clean and useable.

Here are some 'water' facts you may not have known about:

  • Water covers ~70% of the Earth's surface;
  • There is 326 million cubic miles of water on the planet;
  • 97 % of the total water on Earth is in the oceans;
  • Only 3 % of the Earth's water is fresh water;
  • 2.5 % of that fresh water is non-usable. It is locked up in glaciers, ice caps, the atmosphere, soil or deep under earth crust; and
  • 0.5 % of the Earth's total water is available as fresh water.

When you look at these figures it becomes clear that minimal fresh water is left for the survival of Earth's terrestrial living organisms (including humans). Let's stop contaminating precious water sources.
